Mel Lipman

The oft-asked question “Why so many freethought organizations?” will be addressed at the July 25 general meeting by a man with credentials to explain, Mel Lipman, a man who is recognized nationally and internationally as on of the leaders in promoting cooperation among freethought groups.  His speech is titled "Unity and Diversity in Nontheism -- E Pluribus Unum" Now vice president of the International Humanist and Ethical Union, the world’s largest freethought organization, Mel is immediate past president of the American Humanist Association.  Among his first acts there was to bring the AHA into the Secular Coalition for America.

Now retired from his professional life as a constitutional lawyer, Mel lives in Las Vegas with his wife Anita.  There he can be seen practicing his avocation as a stand-up comedian.

    Spring has...Tilted?
    Vernal Equinox Party

To be absolutely, scientifically correct, spring is not when the sun returns, it’s when we in the Northern Hemisphere turns toward the sun, and the best way to do that is a party.
AU’s Vernal Equinox Party at the March meeting, on the 28th, will feature Ingemar Hulthage’s popular game, Blingo, where contestants play a Bingo-like game by lining up the quotes on their cards. There will be prizes, information, and most of all, fun and friendship.

Our Hollywood meeting at the Center for Inquiry is the center of our organization, where we bring in the biggest speakers in the area and host our arts forums and parties. It's always held the 4th Sunday of each month, 11:00 a.m. to 3 p.m, at the Center for Inquiry - Los Angeles, 4773 Hollywood Blvd.

    Our annual schedule:

Jan / Apr / Jul / Oct: Feed your mind! Educational presentation.
Feb / May / Aug / Nov: Arts Showcase! Movie / Music / Poetry / etc.
Mar / Jun / Sep / Dec: Equinox/Solstice Party Month! Come down and have some fun with fellow atheists!

Child care is always available! All meetings followed by a lunch, where you can come and enjoy good food and good conversation, and usually even speak to the guest presenter one-on-one. After lunch, we host our ever-popular "Sound-OFF!" open-mike where you can listen (or even participate yourself!) to hear what our members think about anything and everything.
