Effective July 2010 Meeting

Non-AU members will be charged $5 for admission to General Meetings. First-time visitors will not be charged and will receive two passes for free admission to General Meetings good for six months. The $5 admission can be applied to one’s membership if you join at that meeting.

Santa Monica Solstice Display, Charlie the Gnome, is Vandalized!
This year, Atheists United put up a playful image, a gnome with the face of Charles Darwin and the message, "Reason's Greetings from Atheists United.org." On the 22nd, a member visited the site and found "Charlie's" face had been bashed in. Atheists United President Bobbie Kirkhart noted, "Few religious people would go to such extremes to suppress alternate views, but there are always some people so insecure in their own beliefs that they cannot tolerate anyone who believes differently."

LOS ANGELES, November 9, 2009-Atheists United applauds the Los Angeles Police Department for severing its ties with the organization that administrates its Police Explorer Program, which was affiliated with the Boy Scouts of America, whose openly discriminatory policy prohibits the participation of atheist and gay youth and adult leaders. This is a bold stand for the LAPD to make, considering the popularity of the Scouting program and the perceived positive impact it has in the community. For too long, the Boy Scouts has been able to discriminate against atheist and gay youth and leaders without any retribution from the many local, state and federal government agencies that support, promote and directly fund The Boy Scouts but whose anti-discrimination laws directly conflicts with Scouting policy. Atheist group says they were bullied at Seal Beach tavern

SEAL BEACH-Members of an atheist group that held a social meeting at a local tavern are expressing concerns about being told to take down a sign placed on the table to identify their group, the Seal Beach Atheists.

A group organizer says she won't go back to Hennessey's Tavern on Main Street after a manager told the group during a meeting Sunday that customers were complaining about their sign.

"I think they just wanted to push us out of the bar," said assistant group organizer Claire Weaver, 30, of Huntington Beach. "This kind of stuff happens all the time."

Managers at Hennessy's were not available for comment and Hennessy's corporate office said on Tuesday the incident had not been reported to headquarters.
