Join AU for a Half Day in LA!

santamonicapeir.gifAs the 2009 AAI Convention closes on Sunday, October 4, 2009, we'll get out into the California sunshine, taking a bus to the eminent fossil site, La Brea Tar Pits. After a picnic lunch on the grounds, we'll join a guided tour of the area and the Page Museum, custodian of the world's largest assembly of extinct Ice Age plants and animals. http://www.tarpits.org

After we extract ourselves from the tar, we'll drive past some of LA's most interesting landmarks, as we meander toward the vibrant Santa Monica Pier. http://www.santamonicapier.org

There we will visit the small aquarium, dedicated to protecting the threatened ecology of the Santa Monica Bay. http://www.healthebay.org/smpa

Directly above the aquarium you can ride what is perhaps the best-known merry-go-round in the world. It is one of fewer than 70 surviving all-wooden carousels operating anywhere. It has appeared on television, in music videos, in a video game, and in many movies, most notably The Sting.

On your stroll down the length of the pier, you may enjoy the street entertainers, stop at one of the unique shops, play a game in the arcade, get tickets to a television taping, or take a tour of the amusement park. At the far end, in the restaurant Mariasol, we'll meet again for dinner with a great view of the sun setting over the Pacific Ocean.
