AN UNHOLY TRINITY

The greatest portion of this harm can be attributed to the "revealed" religions such as (and especially) Christianity, because of three basic tenets: 1) the concept of original sin, 2) the notion that humans are helpless without reliance on a "higher power" outside of themselves, and 3) the idea that they are a special creation of this "power", over and above everything else, with dominion over the Earth and all it produces.
Though all three concepts are pure fiction, they are accepted as fact by a significan't part of the human species. History and current events bear witness to the result.
The first is the old original guilt trip, the ideal foundation for mind control. We are said to be born evil because of the "sin" of a mythical first man umpteen generations ago, a proposition roughly equivalent to being executed for something your great grandfather may have done.
We are further told that the only way to avoid eternal torture for this occurrence (over which we had no control) is to believe that another mythical figure had to die a cruel death to "save" us. As if that isn't enough, theres more: All this came about because the first woman "tempted" this first man. Thus, the blame was neatly shifted to woman, resulting in centuries of degradation and travail, some still with us.
The second dogma, that we are inherently powerless and must rely on something outside of ourselves, further softens us for mind control. We must be submissive to this "higher authority", which turns out to be other humans, specifically those in power positions.
Humans were told for centuries that suffering was "Gods will" instead of something they themselves, by their own efforts, could do something about. Its incredible that such an abominable, degrading lie could be believed by so many for so long, and that it still is by some.
Number three threatens not only ourselves, but also the entire planet. I once thought the earth was so vast that we puny humans could never hurt it. But there is increasing evidence that we are hurting it very much. Too many of us are using its resources faster than the system can replace them, while often transforming them into substances which natural processes cannot handle. All of this is increasing at a near-exponential rate, and it comes straight out of that good old time religion. Genesis.
Also in Genesis, youll find the basis for the Armageddon Syndrome - it makes no difference what we do because its all going to end soon anyway, and then God will fix everything. (How many tries does he need to get it right?) Be aware that a former President and at least one Cabinet member, people with power to influence decisions having global effect, were on record as taking this irresponsible belief seriously. I find this positively scary.
If we could somehow take away all the problems resulting from this terrible trio, I think we could just about handle the rest.
