Food Distributions

Help us give out over 3,000 pounds of food each month!

Help us fight food insecurity in Los Angeles by volunteering for our monthly distribution.

We've partnered with the LA Food Bank to give out free food for those in need in Historic Filipinotown. We need volunteers like you to help us pick up, transport, sort, assemble, pack, and give away over 140 grocery kits on the 3rd Friday of each month.

Volunteer Schedule

We host food distributions on the 3rd Friday of each month.

Location: 2535 W Temple St. Los Angeles, CA 90026

Pre-Setup | 9:00am - 12:00pm

Our top volunteers start working hours before anyone else arrives opening the building, picking up supplies, and organizing our U-Haul truck so the day can be a success for everyone

Event Setup | 12:00pm - 1:00pm (When most volunteers arrive)

While a team of volunteers picks up food donations from local food banks our on-site team begins to set up our tents, tables, pallets, chairs, and more
Grab one of our safety vests, borrow a pair of work gloves, and let’s get to work

Food Sorting | 1:00pm - 2:00pm

Around 1 pm our food bank delivery team arrives with a U-Haul truck full of food
Volunteers unload, sort, and count every item before we begin packing grocery kits
We buy pizzas for all volunteers around 2:00pm

Food Packing | 2:00pm - 3:30pm

Once the food is sorted and counted our volunteers begin evenly distributing items into 140+ grocery kits
Another team begins putting up distribution signage and setting up our check-in and pick-up tables
Some volunteers help organize our pet food distribution by sorting and packing animal food baggies
At 3:30pm we open the distribution to signups for people lined up waiting for food

Food Distribution (& Pet Food!) | 3:30pm - 5:00pm

Volunteers move the grocery kits to pallets near our pick-up table for easy distribution
Another team of volunteers work our pick-up table and begin distributing meal kits to families
Extra volunteers grab our “Free Food” signs and promote the distribution from the street corner

Tear Down | 5:00pm - 6:00pm

Once all the food is distributed we begin the cleanup process and pack up our tents, tables, and chairs

After Party | 6:30pm - 8:00pm

Most months volunteers get together at a local restaurant and share a meal to celebrate a job well done

Frequently Asked Questions

+ How many volunteers do you need?

Our event runs best with 15-20 volunteers.

+ Can I help out even if I have a physical disability or have limited mobility?

Yes! We have a few less physically demanding tasks like packing animal food baggies and making grocery kit bags that can be done sitting.

+ Are children welcome? Can I volunteer if I'm under 18?

To volunteer you must be 18 or older. Children are welcome to hang out in our building, or around the event, but for liability reasons they can't volunteer. We do not offer childcare and children must have a parent or guardian there responsible for them at all times.

+ Can I show up just for a few hours?

Yes! Just tell our organizers when you plan to arrive and leave so we know when to plan for you. We close our parking lot entrance from 2:30pm - 5pm so be careful of getting parked in.

+ Are there any clothing requirements?

Yes! You must wear closed toes shoes. Beyond that we recommend you dress for the weather and wear sunscreen when necessary. We provide gloves and safety vests for all volunteers.

+ What are your COVID protocols?

We follow all city guidelines regarding masks and social distancing and require proof of vaccination. We also offer free masks, gloves, and hand sanitizer for all volunteers.
