SMART Recovery® (Self Management And Recovery Training) helps individuals gain independence from addictive substances and activities.
Welcome to our community! Our discussions are based on scientific knowledge and evolve as scientific knowledge evolves. SMART is helpful for some participants primarily because they become involved with a new community of helpful and friendly people. For others, SMART is helpful primarily because they learn new ways of thinking about themselves and their behavior.
Although we have science-based ideas for you to consider, no one will tell you what to do. Our slogan is “Discover the Power of Choice.” For many SMART is a combination of a new community and new ways of thinking. You can be involved with SMART in whatever way you want to. We look forward to your participation.

Our Meetup is hosted on the 3rd Thursday evening of the month at a local restaurant. All are welcome!
🛑What to expect:
An open discussion about religion/atheism and more.
🛑Meeting format:

We mandate courtesy and respect to fellow attendees. First and foremost, this is a social gathering and support group for like-minded persons, not a debate club. If you're coming just to argue on matters of religion or politics, don't bother showing up, you're not going to convert anyone, and you will be asked to leave.
🛑Details:
This is a 2-hour event, but often we go overtime. Feel free to stay as long or as short as you'd like. Look out for topics posted in the discussion section and please place your own ideas, questions, or concerns in the comments and please feel free to private message any of our co-organizers by clicking on their names. We welcome your unique point of view and add to the discussion.

Recovering from Religion Support Group
The Los Angeles area Recovering From Religion support group will meet the FIRST TUESDAY of each month at 7 PM, virtually via Zoom.
RSVP to view the Zoom link to the meeting.
The primary focus of a Recovering From Religion support group is to provide ongoing and personal support to individuals as they let go of their religious beliefs. This transitional period is an ongoing process that can result in a range of emotions, as well as a ripple effect of consequences throughout an individual’s life. As such, the support meetings are safe and anonymous places to express these doubts, fears, and experiences without biased feedback or proselytizing. Attendees are encouraged to share, when they are comfortable doing so.
We are here to help each other through this journey.
There is no cost to attend this support group but, if you feel so inclined, donations can be made at www.recoveringfromreligion.org/donate
If you find you need to talk with someone before the meeting date, RfR has a hotline and online chat for that express purpose. Call (844) 368-2848 to speak with someone. Go to www.recoveringfromreligion.org and click on the green chat bubble in the lower left corner of the site to chat online.
If you are in need of professional help, we can offer the Secular Therapy Project to provide options to connect with a professional therapist. All therapists have been thoroughly vetted by our organization and offer only evidence-based and non-religious treatment. Connect with them at www.seculartherapy.org.

San Fernando Valley Atheists United - Virtual Discussion Meetup
YOU MUST REGISTER ON MEETUP IN ADVANCE TO BE ADMITTED TO THE ZOOM MEETING.
San Fernando Valley Atheists United is a volunteer-led subgroup that hosts virtual dicussion meetings every 1st Monday.
🛑What to expect:
Discussion sparked by short videos about atheism, religion, science, current events, critical thinking, comedy, life hacks, health, and beyond >>> followed by moderated discussions.
🛑Meeting format:
This is a place for atheists to meet, have dinner with each other (eating on camera is ok), and network with fellow atheists, skeptics, and humanists.
A few agnostics and religious people sometimes show up and participate and they are welcome as long as they leave the dogma and proselytizing at home.
We mandate courtesy and respect to fellow attendees. First and foremost, this is a social gathering and support group for like-minded persons, not a debate club. If you're coming just to argue on matters of religion or politics, don't bother showing up, you're not going to convert anyone, and you will be asked to leave.
🛑Details:
This is a 2-hour event, but often we go overtime when the discussion and the great atmosphere it requires; or when we can't get enough of seeing familiar faces and perhaps some new ones.

Welcome to our community! Our discussions are based on scientific knowledge and evolve as scientific knowledge evolves. Although we have science-based ideas for you to consider, no one will tell you what to do. Our slogan is “Discover the Power of Choice.” For many SMART is a combination of a new community and new ways of thinking. You can be involved with SMART in whatever way you want to. We look forward to your participation.

According the US Secular Survey:
15% lower rate of depression among youth active in a local secular community
More than a third of secular youth had negative experiences with family due to their nonreligious identity
One third of secular youth had negative experience in education due to their nonreligious identity
Nearly 50% of young people are religiously unaffiliated

Change myself, change the world…
SMART Recovery® (Self Management And Recovery Training) helps individuals gain independence from addictive substances and activities.

Saturday Sing-Along
Take a break after a long week and join us for a fun night of singing, music, and connecting with people from across Los Angeles.
Bring an instrument if you have one, or your voice, or just bring yourself and enjoy the atmosphere!
We have no song list. We'll take suggestions on the evening.
Drinks and snacks provided by Atheists United will be available for a small donation. You’re also welcome to bring snacks and drinks.
This is an evening of simply getting together with friendly people and enjoying a little music creation together.
Our event will take place at Heretic House, one of Angelino Heights' unforgettable Victorian mansions.
Free street parking is available.
Please email Fletcher at fletchercrossman@yahoo.com with any questions.

More than a third of secular youth had negative experiences with family due to their nonreligious identity
One third of secular youth had negative experience in education due to their nonreligious identity
Nearly 50% of young people are religiously unaffiliated

Change myself, change the world…
SMART Recovery® (Self Management And Recovery Training) helps individuals gain independence from addictive substances and activities.

Where curiosity is celebrated
At Atheists United, we understand better than anyone the importance of creating a safe, secular space for people to explore their ideas, identities, and values. Youth should be celebrated, not shamed, for asking honest questions.

At Atheists United, we are committed to creating safe, inclusive, and harassment-free environments at all of our events. By participating in an event hosted by Atheists United you agree to follow behavior outlined in our Event Code of Conduct policy.

Change myself, change the world…
SMART Recovery® (Self Management And Recovery Training) helps individuals gain independence from addictive substances and activities.

Volunteer Food Distribution
Volunteers start at 11am, distribution begins around 4pm when food kits are ready.
On the third Friday of each month, Atheist United organizes a food distribution in partnership with the LA Food Bank and Sunday Assembly outside our offices.
We need 15+ volunteers to help us assemble, sort, organize, and pack over 4,000 lbs of donated food for those in need.
We begin setting up at 11 AM and work straight till our last food package is handed out, usually around 5pm.
As atheists, we rise by lifting others.
Help us put our values into action!
Safety:
MUST be vaccinated to volunteer.
MUST wear closed-toe shoes.
Everyone is provided a safety vest, free sunscreen, free water, and free masks.
Parking:
As a volunteer, we offer you free parking in our parking lot
Dress Code:
We recommend casual attire you're comfortable doing manual labor in.
No open-toe shoes.
Please dress according to the weather (it gets very hot in the summer months!)
Other Notes:
We provide snacks, shade, and music. If you stay the whole day, we’ll feed you lunch.

San Fernando Valley Meetup
YOU MUST RSVP ON MEETUP.COM
Our Meetup is hosted on the 3rd Thursday evening of the month at a local restaurant. All are welcome!
🛑What to expect:
An open discussion about religion/atheism and more.
🛑Meeting format:
This is a place for atheists to meet, have dinner with each other and network with fellow atheists, skeptics, and humanists.
