Atheists turn religious litter into art at 3rd annual Street Pirate party

Our Atheist Street Pirate Art Exhibit and Party was a surprise smash, with last-minute ticket sales bringing in about 80 people! We turned L.A.’s Center for Inquiry into a faux art gallery using hundreds of religious signs removed from public property, where they were hung illegally. Our community made their own unique art out of the signs. We also heard a music set by Shelley Segal Check out the photos!

We collected canned food for Secular Week of Action, and distributed it at our grocery distribution the following week… along with about 4,000 pounds of food from L.A. Food Bank.

Attendees also learned how to do the tough work of the Atheist Street Pirates — removing religious signs illegally posted on places like telephone poles and overpasses.

The event brought in several new visitors to our community, some of whom signed up for memberships or to volunteer. We also brought in over $2,500 for Atheists United’s charitable programs!

A deep thank you to American Humanist Association for being an event sponsor!
