Atheists United featured in huge LA Times article

Atheists United just made a splash with a huge article about us in yesterday’s LA Times.

A reporter joined us on our Atheist Adventure in Zion Park to scoop our quest for existential wonder. Here’s some of what atheists got to say to 1.4 million people who read the nation’s largest daily metropolitan newspaper:

  • “These are the people who I can openly talk to about who I am and what I believe in. I don’t feel like I’m an outsider.”  -Frances Aragon

  • “These kinds of events are important to me because they shape how I talk to [my son] and help him understand how to be a good human.”-Dani Hsia

  • “Community is not the exclusive domain of religion.”  -Christine Jones

This isn’t just a brag for our organization. This is a win for all atheists.

Often, the only times the media talks about atheists is when there’s controversy, politics, or religion involved. We virtually never get to express our sense of optimism, community, and wonderment on this scale.

Part of AU’s mission is elevating the profiles of non-believers in the public eye, and we did that here. This is only possible thanks to the generous donors that have helped rapidly grow AU over recent years into an organization that’s capturing the public attention.

We have plans next year for more Atheist Adventures, bigger social events, and increased media exposure. We can only continue seizing on this momentum, though, with an increase in financial support. If you can, please take a moment to join or upgrade your membership, or make a contribution today.
